Mujeres Mercado presents “The Vibrant Community” a Holiday Pop-Up Shop and Community Art Space OPENING NIGHT!

Mujeres Mercado, in partnership with Southwest Workers Union (SWU) presents “The Vibrant Community” a Holiday Pop-Up Shop and Community Art Space. With a special meet and greet Opening Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 6-9PM, 1414 E. Commerce Avenue. This two-month project, a partnership between Mujeres Mercado and Southwest Workers Union is a chance to enjoy a special holiday collaboration between select Mujeres Mercado’s all-female artisans, traditional healers, performers and DJ’s.

“The Vibrant Community” space will be open for two months, November and December, and will feature the fine handmade artisanship that the Mujeres Mercado artisan network is known for, including original artwork, jewelry, household cositas, vintage & wearable art & clothing, and other distinctive gifts. Also featured will be ongoing family-programming where community members will be welcomed to learn some of the skills they can use to #handmaketheholidays for themselves. With two in-house DJ’s and multiple performers planning celebrations, traditional healers specializing in crystal healings, rebozo alignments, limpias and tarot reading offering open hours for the community, select artisans offering affordable workshop opportunities, and others contributing to a full schedule of ongoing cultural programming the two month long project will be an excellent time to spend with your friends and family this holiday season, all while supporting and connecting with local women building alternative economies to support themselves and their communities.
